New Medela Sonata Breastpump Available Now!

Medela released a brand new breastpump called the Medela Sonata this month. The Sonata looks totally different than the Pump In Style Advanced or Freestyle models. There's a large face with a pumping timer and all of the buttons to start, stop and control the suction. The face is also lit so you can easily use this in a dark room at night.

One of the improvements over the Pump In Style Advanced is that there is a rechargeable battery. Now you don't have to be tethered to a wall plug while you're pumping. It doesn't look like this is something you can walk around with, but at least you can pump in your car, a dressing room or anywhere you have a private space.

The pumping parts look like they have been totally redesigned. Here's a side by side photo of the pieces from the Pump In Style Advanced and the new Sonata pieces.

The flanges look like they might be the same, but the connectors and valves/membranes look totally different!

Here's a picture up close of the connector parts:

I believe this is the cap, membrane, connector and valve. As you can see, the membrane is COMPLETELY different!

One thing they are marketing is that this pump is HOSPITAL GRADE. Does that mean it is a closed system pump?  Inquiring minds want to know!

Have you tried the Sonata?  What do you think?  I'd love to hear your reviews!  How does it compare to the PISA or Spectra?
