Hacking Medela Parts for Spectra pumps | How to use Medela Breast Flange with Spectra Breast Pump

While I love the Spectra S2 pump (as much as one can love a pump), extra parts are hard to come by. There are a few (small) companies that have started selling their own versions that are compatible with the Spectra pump.  A few of these are Nene and Maymom.

Another option is to use Medela pump parts with your Spectra pump!  Because I was on the Medela "system" with my first baby, I had plenty of spare Medela flanges, membranes and bottles.  I started researching if it was possible to use these with my Spectra.  When I first started researching, there were some "hacks" that people had figured out by cutting different pieces of tubing to connect the pieces.  However, as of a few weeks ago, Maymom released a connector piece that magically connects Medela flanges to the Spectra pump!

The way this works is by connecting the Medela flange to the Spectra backflow protector.  Then you connect the backflow protector to the Spectra tubing as usual.

Here's an up close photo of the piece in action:

I noticed no difference in suction or pumping output.  It works great and I am so happy I can use all of my Medela parts!  Click here to check it out on Amazon.
